Wildlife Law CLE: Inaugural Summer Series
SCI recently hosted its Wildlife Law CLE: Inaugural Summer Series, a free two-hour continuing legal education program focused on timely issues in wildlife and conservation law. The seminar was held on July 20 at SCI’s Hunters’ Embassy in Washington, DC, with additional participants joining virtually via Zoom.
The program featured presentations from respected leaders and practitioners in the field, including:
- Aurelia Skipwith Giacometto, former Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service;
- Margaret Everson, Executive Director of the Oak Grove Initiative;
- Regina Lennox and Madeline Demaske of SCI’s Legal Advocacy Team; and
- Keely Hopkins, SCI Western State and Local Liaison.
Attendees received an in-depth overview of key conservation and wildlife laws, explored the history and principles of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, discussed current developments involving the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), and examined challenges and policy considerations related to wild horse management throughout the West.
The seminar attracted attorneys and other professionals with interests in wildlife, conservation, natural resources, public lands, and administrative law. CLE credit was offered in Virginia, Wyoming, and Colorado, while SCI pursued accreditation in additional states for in-person attendees. Virtual participants received certificates of attendance to support accreditation requests in their respective jurisdictions.
